Calcium Hypochlorite Application in Textile Industry

Calcium Hypochlorite Application in Textile Industry

Calcium hypochlorite is one of the oldest and most fundamental bleaching agents in the textile industry. It possesses strong oxidizing properties, effectively removing pigments and impurities from natural fibers, making it a traditional and highly effective bleaching agent.

Core Applications and Processes: Calcium hypochlorite is primarily used for bleaching cellulosic fibers (such as cotton and linen). It reacts with water and carbon dioxide to produce hypochlorous acid, a strong oxidizing agent. Hypochlorous acid decomposes natural pigments and lignin in fibers, thereby improving the whiteness and luster of the fabric.

Application scenarios:

Fiber Type; Cotton Fabric; Linen Fabric; Silk Fiber; Synthetic Fibers; Pulp (related field)

 Key points of the process

Concentration control is crucial:

1. Cotton/Linen: 1%-3% effective chlorine concentration, 40-60℃, 30-60 minutes

2. Silk fibers: Requires a lower concentration (0.1%-0.5%), 30-40℃, 10-20 minutes

3. pH value must be strictly controlled: Maintain within the alkaline range (pH 9-11). Acidic conditions will release toxic chlorine gas.

4. Thorough dechlorination is necessary: Dechlorination treatment is mandatory after bleaching; otherwise, the fabric will yellow and its strength will decrease.
