Applications of Thionyl Chloride:

1. Chlorination agent for organic synthesis, such as chlorination of alcohol hydroxyl group, chlorination of carboxylic acid, chlorination of acid anhydride, chlorination of organic sulfonic acid or nitro compound.Make acyl chloride. Manufacture of pharmaceutical intermediates, such as deworming and odourless comycin.It is also used as dehydrating agent and solvent.

2. Used as chlorination agent and oxidant in organic synthesis, such as preparation of acyl chloride, organic anhydride, etc.Also used as a catalyst.
